Washed by the Water

As it rains and rains and continues to rain, the somewhat dreary weather could cause me to feel restless cooped up inside or depressed at the lack of sun and warm weather.  On the flip-side, rain is a glorious thing that nourishes the earth and reminds me of how I am washed through the waters of Baptism.  I was far too young when I was baptized to truly remember much of what went on that day, but I know that my parents pledged to raise me in the faith and daily model for me what it means to be Christian.  I may not always agree with my parents or understand how or why they do what they do, but I am still thankful for how they raised me and daily demonstrated Christ's love to me through their words and actions.

One of my all-time favorite songs by NeedtoBreathe, Washed by the Water, illustrates this very fact and encourages me that even when I seem to be struggling through the most tough situations in life, God is truly with me and He loves me more than I could ever comprehend.  Even when my darkest sins are dragging me down or my deepest struggles are pulling me away from God, this song reminds me that nothing can separate me from God's love; nothing can take away the precious gifts I received through the waters of Baptism.  Just as Paul states in Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced, that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Even through the most powerful storms of this life, Christ reassures us that He is all-powerful and is able to calm any storm.  In Luke 8, Christ calms the raging storm when the disciples begin to fear the tempest (Jesus Calms the Storm, Luke 8:22-25).  Just as Christ calmed this storm in Bible times, He is right there beside us through every storm of this life, ready and willing to walk with us through the storm and guide us as we navigate through this life of sin and struggle.

"Even when the rain falls, even when the flood starts rising, even when the storm comes, I am washed by the water." ~NeedtoBreathe
